About the role
The State of Georgia is seeking a Collections Analyst to manage overpayment recoveries on retirement benefit accounts. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will play a key role in optimizing the agency’s collection portfolio and ensuring accurate financial reconciliation.
Key responsibilities
- Review assigned member accounts to verify overpayment amounts, sources, and responsible parties.
- Analyze complex overpayment issues, develop solutions, and create action plans to resolve delinquencies promptly.
- Contact responsible parties to negotiate repayment terms and issue contractual repayment agreements.
- Investigate disputes, provide resolutions, and supply additional information as requested.
- Record all collection activities, maintain documentation, and send payment acknowledgement letters.
- Maintain and reconcile the master collection database, ensuring data accuracy and timely financial adjustments.
- Coordinate with Accounting to verify cash receipts, update reversal reports, and resolve discrepancies.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or five years of relevant financial experience.
- 2‑4 years of collections experience, including cold‑call collections, payment negotiation, and handling disputed charges.
- Ability to work independently and meet goals under pressure.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent verbal communication skills with a diplomatic yet firm approach.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word (intermediate level).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (intermediate level).
