Coffee Shop Barista

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Coffee Shop Barista in its coffee shop in Fort Madison. The role is hourly, and night and weekend shifts are required. You will be the friendly face customers see every morning, crafting beverages, keeping the coffee shop stocked and spotless, and making sure every customer leaves satisfied.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly, learn their names and go the extra mile to make every visit positive
• Take orders at the counter and over the phone, and help customers find products and answer questions
• Prepare and replenish coffee shop products, monitor freshness and appearance, and follow or develop a production list
• Handle food safely and keep the work area clean and neat to department standards
• Check in product, put it away, and review invoices as needed
• Run the department register and process payments where applicable
• Remove trash promptly and maintain a tidy department
• Work with teammates to ensure a smooth experience for every customer
• Follow the dress code, hygiene standards and company policies, and assist in other store areas and special projects as needed

Required profile

• No prior experience required; training and support are provided
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent is accepted; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred
• Able to follow written and verbal instructions, use basic math for simple addition, subtraction, counting and recording, and communicate clearly and helpfully
• Stay organized and keep up with the pace of a busy coffee shop
• Physical demands include frequent standing and walking, repetitive standing, walking, reaching and bending, and exposure to heat and burn hazards from cooking equipment; ability to safely use sharp knives and blades and to operate a delivery vehicle under DOT standards where applicable

The role is supervised by the Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers, Food Service Director and Coffee Shop Department Manager. Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment drug screen.
