CNC/EDM Machinist

About the role

Vulcan Elements is seeking a CNC/EDM Machinist to operate, maintain, and test a variety of machining equipment with a strong focus on grinding and CNC profile cutting. The position starts at Johnston Community College’s Advanced Manufacturing Facility in Four Oaks, NC and will transition to the new Benson, NC facility.

Key responsibilities

• Operate CNC equipment including wire EDM, grinders, mills, lathes, wire saws, and lasers.
• Process test samples and parts to internal and external specifications while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
• Create, document, and refine processing parameters for diverse materials and perform first‑article and test inspections.
• Design custom work‑holding solutions and collaborate with engineers and technicians on scheduling and processing plans.
• Maintain spare parts and consumables inventory and establish SOPs for work‑holding and equipment operation.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience with CAD and CAM software.
• Familiarity with G‑code and M‑code programming.
• Ability to read and generate technical drawings.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be a U.S. Person due to export‑controlled information requirements.

Required skills

• CNC operation (mills, lathes, grinders, wire EDM, laser cutters, waterjets, diamond wire saws).
• CAD/CAM proficiency.
• G‑code and M‑code programming.
• Analog and digital inspection and measurement tools.
• Custom gcode post‑processor creation and multiaxis grinding.
