CNC Machinist I-III

About the role

McWane is hiring CNC Machinists (levels I-III) for its Calera plant. The machinists operate CNC machines such as lathes, vertical turret lathes and mills, setting up, machining and checking products so that production runs smoothly within company quality standards. They work closely with the quality department and project coordinators.

Key responsibilities

• Set up machines, lathes, mills or other machining centers and run them at a production pace, completing changeovers on time
• Load and unload parts, deburr parts, start and stop machines, and maintain a safe, clean work area with proper PPE
• Learn to read blueprints, use measuring devices and insert programs; modify basic G-code and operate CNC and manual machines
• Maintain shop equipment, stock materials and supplies, and keep fluid levels checked on running machines
• Inspect parts to specification with precision measuring devices, record production and maintain count cards
• Participate in process improvements and continuous improvement, and may help with cell support, finishing and polishing
• Receive individual training and mentorship on CNC equipment, and CAM programming is preferred

Required profile

• At least 2 years of experience as a CNC Machinist
• Enrolled in or participating in a CNC Machining program
• High school diploma or GED; associates degree or higher in a technical field preferred
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally, and to work in heat, cold, noise, vibration, dust and fumes
• Must wear steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection and a mask
• Must be able to operate a forklift or overhead crane and work overtime and extended hours

Required skills

• CNC machining of complex, high-precision metal and plastic parts
• Basic G-code modification and CAM programming preferred
• Knowledge of industrial tools, their uses and maintenance
• Computer skills
