CNC Machinist I-II, 2nd Shift

About the role

McWane is hiring a CNC Machinist I-II for its Calera plant, working the second shift (Monday to Thursday, 2 pm to 12:30 am). The machinist operates CNC machines such as lathes, vertical turret lathes and mills, setting up, machining and checking products so that production runs smoothly within company quality standards. The position is full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Set up, machine and check products on CNC lathes, VTLs and mills, keeping production items running at acceptable quantity and quality
• Run equipment at production pace and complete changeovers in a timely manner; may also do cell support, finishing and polishing
• Work closely with the quality department and project coordinators
• Maintain a safe work environment, wear PPE, keep the area clean and assist supervisors in safety matters
• Load and unload parts, deburr parts, start and stop machines, and maintain stock materials and supplies
• Learn to read blueprints, use measuring devices and manipulate programs; modify basic G-code and operate CNC and manual machines
• Maintain shop equipment, monitor fluid levels, inspect parts to specification and record production counts
• Participate in process improvements and receive individual training and mentorship on CNC equipment

Required profile

• At least 2 years of experience as a CNC Machinist
• Enrolled in or participating in a CNC Machining program
• High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or higher in a technical field preferred
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds regularly, 25 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally, and to work in heat, cold, noise, vibration, dust and fumes
• Ability to work overtime and extended hours, and to work outside in all weather
• Ability to operate a forklift or overhead crane

Required skills

• CNC programming (CAM programming preferred)
• Reading blueprints and using precision measuring devices
• Basic knowledge of industrial tools and their maintenance
• Computer skills
