Clinical Pharmacist / Pharmacy Clinical Specialist – Emergency Department

About the role

The Clinical Pharmacist/Pharmacy Clinical Specialist will be the dedicated decentralized pharmacist for the Emergency Department at Lutheran Hospital, providing real‑time medication expertise and supporting high‑acuity patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Review and verify medication orders, offering evidence‑based pharmacotherapy recommendations.
• Respond to trauma activations, stroke alerts, cardiac arrests and other emergent situations, providing drug information and education.
• Support antimicrobial stewardship initiatives and serve as the primary pharmacy resource within the Emergency Department.
• Participate in quality, research and committee activities, and precept pharmacy residents and students.
• Contribute to process improvement, drug shortage management and internal QI/QA projects.

Required profile

• PharmD or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited college.
• Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligibility within 90 days of hire.
• PGY2 residency or fellowship preferred; alternatively PGY1 residency plus ≥2 years specialty experience, or ≥4 years clinical specialist experience.
• Eligibility for immunization administration and Basic Life Support certification.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
