Choral Director (Grades 5‑12)

About the role

The Buffalo Academy for Visual and Performing Arts is seeking a qualified Choral Director to lead music instruction for grades 5‑12. The role involves directing school choirs, teaching vocal technique, and preparing students for a variety of performances and competitions.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, rehearse, and conduct school choirs for concerts, festivals, competitions, and community events.
• Teach healthy singing techniques, including breath support, diction, tone production, blend, and intonation.
• Select age‑appropriate, diverse repertoire and prepare students for stage performance.
• Assess student progress in vocal growth, music literacy, and ensemble discipline.
• Lead auditions, placement, and provide individualized instruction for students with exceptionalities.
• Participate in after‑school and weekend community performances as required.

Required profile

• New York State or Buffalo certification in the relevant teaching area.
• Preference for current City of Buffalo residency.
• Familiarity with New York State Learning Standards for the Arts.
• Ability to collaborate with accompanists, faculty, administrators, parents, and community partners.
