Charge Nurse - Med Surg (Nights)

About the role

AdventHealth in Denver is hiring a full-time Charge Nurse for its Med Surg unit working nights. The role coordinates patient care across departments including PACU, inpatient units, radiology and anesthesia, and supervises nursing assistants and support staff. Eligible registered nurses may earn salary increases of up to 20% through the voluntary Clinical Ladder Program.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate patient care across departments, including PACU, inpatient units, radiology and anesthesia
• Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient assessments and medical orders, and monitor and document patient progress
• Manage daily schedules, the endoscopy schedule and staffing and equipment availability
• Prioritize patients by acuity and urgency and respond promptly to emergencies
• Supervise nursing assistants and support staff, evaluate their performance and manage hours worked, overtime and supplies
• Educate patients and families about care plans and treatments, and consult with them
• Take part in quality improvement initiatives and attend or lead codes
• Work with the director on fiscal management, staffing, recruitment, discipline and department policies

Required profile

• Registered nurse with supervision experience and a current license
• Able to use high-level abstract reasoning to assess patients and revise care plans
• Effective communication in English, verbal and written; additional languages preferred
• Teamwork, critical thinking, prioritization and leadership abilities

Required skills

• Basic computer skills, navigating Microsoft Windows programs
• Cerner (preferred)
• Accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
