Certified Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Certified Pharmacy Technician in its pharmacy department in Belton. The technician provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service and assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing prescription medications. The position is non-exempt and reports to the Pharmacy Department Manager and staff pharmacists.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers, learn their names and help them find products, including escorting them and loading or unloading heavy items
• Answer the telephone and handle inquiries that do not need a pharmacist's judgment
• Accept new written prescription orders and refill requests, gather patient information and assist pharmacists in preparing prescriptions for dispensing
• Prepare and affix labels to prescription containers, mail prescriptions and submit insurance claims
• File prescriptions after dispensing, report medication errors, and assist with third-party insurance billing
• Order, check in and stock pharmacy supplies, log invoices and perform cash transactions
• Maintain the cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area and adhere to hygiene, dress and safety guidelines
• Administer vaccines where allowed by law and maintain confidentiality of medical information under HIPAA
• Acknowledge exposure to hazardous drugs and follow pharmacy policies to reduce risk

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certified as a licensed pharmacy technician through a national program, keeping the license active with continuing education
• Previous experience as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy clerk preferred
• Ability to think logically and scientifically, do arithmetic calculations, read technical manuals and communicate with people
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently, with normal vision and color vision
