About the role
The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) on the Michael Unit provides essential patient‑care support within a correctional health‑care setting. Working under the direction of nursing staff, the CMA assists with daily living activities, health monitoring, and safe medication distribution for incarcerated individuals.
Key responsibilities
- Collect and document vital signs, height, weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry, and specimen collection.
- Perform Point‑of‑Care testing and report results promptly.
- Assist patients with personal hygiene, oral suctioning, wound care, skin care, and ostomy care.
- Support feeding, ambulation, positioning, and mobility for patients with limited movement.
- Administer and document medications in both general and segregation populations, ensuring compliance with Texas licensing standards.
- Maintain drug‑room security, restock supplies, and enter medication data into the pharmacy computer system.
- Observe and report patient safety concerns, including restraints and emergency situations.
- Interview incoming patients, complete screening forms, and assist with psychiatric referrals.
Required profile
- Certified Medication Aide (CMA) credential.
- Ability to work in a correctional environment and follow strict security protocols.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks under time constraints.
- Commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality.
