Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC/IADC)

About the role

Thrive Now Recovery Center, which offers structured, recovery-focused treatment for substance use disorders and co-occurring behavioral health needs, is hiring a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC/IADC) for its Iowa City facility. The schedule is primarily days, with some evening or weekend flexibility depending on program needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling and complete clinical assessments and screenings within the scope of the credential.
• Develop, implement, review and update individualized treatment plans with patients and the interdisciplinary team.
• Facilitate evidence-based, recovery-oriented and psychoeducational groups, covering relapse prevention, coping skills and recovery planning.
• Take part in treatment team meetings, discharge and continuing-care planning, and collaborate with case management, peer support, nursing and medical providers.
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record, protect patient confidentiality (HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2) and follow accreditation standards.
• Recognize and escalate patient safety concerns, use trauma-informed approaches, seek supervision when needed and keep required credentials and continuing education up to date.

Required profile

• Current CADC or IADC credential recognized in Iowa, or ability to meet the credentialing requirements.
• Bachelor's degree in behavioral health, social services, psychology, counseling, human services, addiction studies or a related field preferred.
• Knowledge of substance use disorders, relapse prevention and evidence-based counseling approaches.
• Preferred: master's degree, previous residential treatment experience, experience with co-occurring mental health conditions, familiarity with ASAM criteria and evidence-based approaches such as MI, CBT, DBT-informed skills, ACT and relapse prevention.

Required skills

• Strong verbal and written communication and clinical documentation skills.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary behavioral health team and complete pre-employment screening, orientation and competency requirements.
