About the role

Brookshire Grocery Company (BGC), based in Tyler, Texas, is hiring a cashier. The role engages with customers, provides efficient checkout services, bags and transports groceries, locates products and carries out price verifications, while keeping transactions accurate and the shopping environment safe and sanitary.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure correct checkout totals by weighing, keying and scanning items, and keep the register money count accurate.
• Access or memorize product codes and stay current on tender policies for checks, credit, debit, coupons, EBT, WIC, AML and more.
• Greet customers, answer questions, locate and promote products and respond to complaints; promote the Thank You Card program.
• Bag groceries properly, limit bag weight, prevent cross-contamination and ensure customers receive all items.
• Keep front-end racks, drink coolers and cleaning stations stocked and clean, and follow safety procedures.
• Comply with local, state and federal laws on restricted items such as tobacco, alcohol and cannabis-based and pharmaceutical products.

Required profile

• Minimum age of 16; on-the-job training typically provided.
• TABC/LACT certification required where applicable.
• Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays, and to attend work regularly.
• Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting up to 40 lb frequently and up to 75 lb occasionally, and bending, kneeling or squatting.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of cash registers and tender policies and procedures.
• Basic mathematical and counting skills.
• Ability to learn new technology systems and to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication with customers and partners.
