CAM Programmer

About the role

McWane is looking for an experienced, highly organized CAM Programmer in Calera, AL, reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The role builds optimized machining programs for production runs of captive large valves and drawings, designs fixtures and uses knowledge of tooling and tooling suppliers to produce accurate parts.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of the CAM program in Alabama Dynamics and write programs for CNC mills, lathes and 3-, 4- and 5-axis machining centers, including complex surfaces
• Retrieve CAD data from customers, convert it to the format used by offline programming software, and create user-friendly programs for minimally skilled operators and experienced programmers
• Troubleshoot and edit programs at machines, assist operators with CNC program and inspection sheet issues, and inspect finished parts against requirements
• Develop and manage the tool database, manage shop floor programs and revisions, and implement probing on machines
• Design tooling, fixtures and assembly equipment, and handle first-article machining, proving out of programs and new product introductions
• Set up and operate CNC equipment for high mix, low volume manufacturing, and assist in quoting cycle times
• Create documentation such as setup sheets, make PO requisitions, and prioritize continuous improvement

Required profile

• 3-6 years of experience in CAM programming and fixture design
• High school diploma/GED and advanced computer skills
• Minimum skill level of Machine Operator II
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with valves, castings and mechanical components is a plus
• Physical ability to stand, walk, kneel, reach and sit, wear PPE, work in heat, cold, noise, dust and fumes, and operate a forklift or overhead crane
• Overtime and extended hours may be required
