Cable Technician

About the role

Omnyon is hiring a Cable Technician in Annapolis Junction. The technician works under general supervision and may lead and train other technicians assigned to install, repair and test voice, data and audiovisual infrastructure. The role involves coordinating the day-to-day work of junior crewmembers, who may include temporary labour and subcontractors, and working closely with customers, the Cabling Group Manager and the Cabling Supervisor.

Key responsibilities

• Install, repair and test voice, data and audiovisual infrastructure, including service calls, adds, moves and changes.
• Coordinate work assignments and scheduling of junior crewmembers, delegate tasks and verify that work is completed on time and to quality.
• Verify crewmember work hours daily and complete work orders, material transfer forms and other required documentation.
• Update customer prints and documentation, and interact with clients, contractors and vendors on site.
• Maintain a safe work environment and comply with company policies and procedures.
• May direct a crew of 2 to 4 technicians and helpers under the supervision of a Cabling Manager or Cabling Supervisor.
• Keep improving through ongoing corporate or specialty education.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• At least 10 years of technical experience in commonly used installation, termination, testing procedures and standards.
• Knowledge of hardware, equipment and specifications related to network topologies and telecommunication voice/data systems.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Required skills

• In-depth knowledge of termination equipment, methodologies and splicing techniques.
• Cable termination, testing, cable rack preparation, layout and installation, and documentation.
