Lead Field Engineer - Optical Network Deployments

About the role

The Lead Field Engineer deploys high-speed, complex optical networks across the United States, acting as technical lead in the field and at the factory staging area alongside other Field Engineers and Project Engineers. The role covers network installation, fiber optic characterization, trace analysis, equipment commissioning and network performance testing. Travel is required about 75% of the time, with implementations at customer sites nationwide.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as implementation lead for optical network deployments, supporting DWDM and IP/MPLS networks for hyperscale, utility and service provider customers.
• Work with Project Managers to develop and run efficient deployment plans.
• Mentor junior staff on site surveys, fiber optic characterization, equipment installation and integration.
• Install to Telcordia GR-1275 (central office) standards and customer standards, and label equipment.
• Provision and integrate optical platforms such as Ciena 6500/R, WaveServer, Nokia 1830 and Nokia XTM/GX.
• Troubleshoot and test optical networks for long-haul, metro and regional architectures.
• Use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Visio, Word).
• Promote a safety-first culture, follow SOWs, MOPs and safety plans, and proactively manage project risks.

Required profile

• Reside in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area and be available for network staging when not deployed.
• At least 5 years of experience installing, turning up, testing and troubleshooting networking equipment.
• Strong experience with optical transport technologies, fiber characterization, optical testing and commissioning.
• Experience provisioning and integrating optical platforms from leading vendors.
• Able to travel up to 75% of the time, including short-notice trips, and to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.
