Buyer (Level 1 or 2) – Procurement Specialist

About the role

The Buyer (Level 1 or 2) supports LSU by managing the acquisition of goods, services, and equipment. Working under established guidelines, the role involves negotiating with suppliers, preparing bids, and ensuring compliance with university and governmental regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and award competitive bids and non‑competitive purchase orders for a wide range of commodities and maintenance contracts.
• Determine appropriate procurement methods (RFPs, sole‑source, direct negotiations) and prioritize departmental requisitions.
• Troubleshoot order issues, negotiate contract terms, and obtain necessary approvals up to $50,000.
• Monitor contracts for compliance with federal, state, and university policies; conduct audits and maintain accurate records.
• Provide guidance and training to department staff on procurement laws, policies, and procedures.

Required profile

• Knowledge of standard procurement concepts, practices, and office procedures.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
• Strong attention to detail and adherence to established guidelines.
• Willingness to work under immediate supervision and adapt to flexible work arrangements.
