Business Manager for University Honors Program

About the role

The University Honors Program seeks a Business Manager to lead the management of a dynamic office serving hundreds of students and over 40 faculty members each semester. Reporting to the Director of University Honors, this role oversees budget, payroll, personnel, and facilities operations.

Key responsibilities

• Administer bi‑weekly payroll for all employees, ensure compliance with UMD policies and federal/state laws, and continuously improve payroll processes.
• Manage budgeting activities, including modeling, tracking, and liaison with budget officers in the Honors College and UGST.
• Oversee personnel functions from hiring to off‑boarding, interpret university policies, and serve as primary liaison to central HR and Benefits, using Workday.
• Supervise the use, scheduling, and inventory of the UH Commons space, coordinating with campus partners to optimize furniture, hardware, and software.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (or equivalent experience).
• At least three years of professional experience in human resources, payroll, finance, accounting, procurement, or related fields.
• Knowledge of HR policies, payroll regulations, and ability to interpret and apply university policies.
