Business Economist

About the role

The Economic Research Division of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is seeking a Business Economist to support its research and policy mission. You will work closely with senior leadership, contribute to high‑impact research, and help translate economic insights for a broad audience.

Key responsibilities

• Provide expert economic analysis for pre‑FOMC briefings and system‑wide policy activities.
• Produce publishable research papers for peer‑reviewed journals.
• Communicate economic issues through Bank publications, blog posts, speeches, and media appearances.
• Engage with business executives, industry analysts, and community leaders to gather anecdotal insights.
• Identify emerging economic trends from outreach data and incorporate them into policy work.
• Advance analytical tools by integrating new data sources and techniques.
• Participate in seminars, workshops, and mentoring activities to foster a vibrant research environment.

Required profile

• PhD in Economics.
• At least 5 years of experience in economic analysis.
• Deep knowledge of the national economy and/or the Eighth Federal Reserve District.
• Proven ability to conduct independent research and produce high‑quality written work.
• Strong communication skills for presenting complex ideas to diverse audiences.
• Experience collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
