Auditor 2 – Tax Field Auditor (Reno, NV)

About the role

The Department of Taxation is looking for an Auditor 2 to join its tax field audit team in Reno, Nevada. The role involves conducting audits of taxpayers' financial records to verify compliance with Nevada sales, use, excise taxes and related abatement contracts. Audits are performed electronically, on‑site in Southern Nevada, and at other locations across the contiguous United States.

Key responsibilities

• Research audit history of individuals, businesses, or agencies and develop audit steps based on approved programs.
• Review financial and tax records, examine documentation, and interview personnel to assess compliance with statutes, regulations, and contracts.
• Conduct audits following Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards and internal auditing standards.
• Document findings, prepare work papers and reports, and recommend improvements to controls and procedures.
• Perform entrance and exit interviews to explain audit scope, discuss findings, and answer stakeholder questions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with at least one year of professional auditing or accounting experience, or high school diploma with three years of relevant experience.
• Alternatively, one year of experience as an Auditor I in Nevada State service or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong analytical abilities to evaluate financial information and make recommendations.
• Effective communication skills for interviewing and reporting.
