Associate Vice President & Executive Director, Mays Center

About the role

The Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Executive Director of the Mays Center for Experiential Learning and Community Engagement provides strategic vision and leadership for student success initiatives at Texas A&M University‑San Antonio. This senior role guides programs that enhance academic transition, experiential learning, civic engagement, workforce development, and career services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise directors of Experiential Learning, Civic Engagement, Workforce Development, and Career Services.
• Develop and manage budgets, resources, and policies for the Mays Center.
• Forge and nurture partnerships with employers, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies.
• Drive strategic planning, assessment, and accreditation activities aligned with university missions.
• Collaborate with senior administration, faculty, and college deans to integrate high‑impact practices that improve retention and graduation rates.
• Provide counsel to the Vice President for Student Affairs on institutional priorities and external funding opportunities.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in higher education or a related student affairs environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large, multidisciplinary teams and complex budgets.
• Strong record of building external partnerships and securing resources.
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills with internal and external stakeholders.
