Associate Negotiator (Realty Specialist II)

About the role

The State of Illinois, Department of Transportation, is hiring two Associate Negotiators (Realty Specialist II) in Schaumburg, Illinois. The position handles negotiations and related activities for acquiring real property as right-of-way (ROW) for state highway improvement programs so that contracts can be let on time. It is a full-time, salaried union position with an anticipated starting salary of $4,445 per month (range $4,445-$7,760) and a hybrid schedule of 1 to 5 days per week in the office.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate with property owners and ensure settlements close on time, with accurate plats, legal descriptions and clean titles.
• Ensure good-faith negotiations are satisfied before condemnation proceedings begin.
• Follow the Land Acquisition manual and all applicable state and federal laws on ROW acquisition.
• Maintain accurate data in the Land Acquisition Management System (LAMS).
• Perform duties in line with departmental safety rules and treat all employees fairly.

Required profile

• Completion of two years of college in engineering, construction management or a related field.
• One year of experience (the text is cut off after "PLUS one year of").
• Bilingual skills are welcome; applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
