Associate Medical Examiner – Forensic Pathologist

About the role

The State Medical Examiner's Office, part of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, is seeking an Associate Medical Examiner (Forensic Pathologist) to join its Decatur headquarters. You will provide forensic pathology services for a large portion of the state, handling complex post‑mortem examinations and contributing to homicide investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform 250‑300 post‑mortem examinations annually, including 400‑475 homicide cases.
• Provide expert testimony and consultative support to law enforcement, prosecutors, and child‑abuse investigators.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of medical examiners, death investigation specialists, and support staff.
• Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to the Office’s accreditation and quality‑assurance programs.

Required profile

• Board‑certified forensic pathologist (or eligible for certification).
• Valid medical license in the state of Georgia.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a GBI background investigation, polygraph, fingerprinting, and drug screening clearance.
• Commitment to a drug‑free workplace and adherence to federal and state regulations.
