Associate Manager, Brand Voice

About the role

Meijer is looking for an Associate Manager of Brand Voice in Grand Rapids. The role shapes and stewards how Meijer communicates across all customer touchpoints, leading a team of writers and setting the standards, guidelines and messaging frameworks that keep storytelling consistent and coherent. It works closely with marketing, creative, merchandising and agency teams to turn brand and campaign strategies into clear, customer-centred communication.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of writers, set clear standards and processes, and mentor and grow talent.
• Own and evolve the Meijer brand voice, including copy guidelines and standards, across all channels.
• Act as steward of voice quality across AI-assisted and human-generated content.
• Translate brand and campaign strategies into messaging frameworks and cohesive storytelling.
• Partner with designers, marketing, merchandising, creative teams and agencies, and with legal/compliance, to guide messaging and ensure timely, compliant execution.
• Influence and present to stakeholders at all levels to drive clarity and simplicity.
• Support creative leadership in campaign development and execution.
• Establish scalable content frameworks, processes and workflows, and keep the brand voice relevant through cultural, social and industry insights.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, English, journalism, advertising, public relations or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in copywriting, editing and evolving brand voice across channels.
• Strong command of grammar and editorial standards (AP Style or similar), with the ability to define brand-specific guidelines.
• Experience with customer segmentation, targeted messaging and community-building strategies.

Required skills

• Digital experience, including web UI, usability principles and content management systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with voice guidelines, content systems or documentation frameworks is a plus.
• Strategic thinking, planning and narrative development, and strong cross-functional collaboration.
