Associate FinOps Engineer

About the role

Marsh's Cloud Platform Solutions team is looking for an Associate FinOps Engineer in Louisville, Austin or Phoenix. The role sits at the intersection of FinOps expertise and engineering, owning cost analysis logic, waste detection rules, anomaly detection workflows and front-end dashboards. It is hybrid, with at least three days a week in the office, and reports to the Senior Manager, Cloud Platform Solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Own cloud cost analysis end to end, from raw billing data (AWS CUR, Azure Billing Exports, OCI, FOCUS) to insights, recommendations and automated actions that reduce spend.
• Build and maintain waste detection logic across AWS, Azure and OCI, covering compute, storage, networking and commitment coverage.
• Work with stakeholders to design and maintain cost allocation models for shared spend, ensuring accurate chargeback and showback.
• Design and run anomaly detection workflows and root cause analysis tooling for cost spikes.
• Build front-end dashboards and UIs for cost allocation, waste reporting and anomaly visualization.
• Define and document the cloud cost data model used by the Databricks analytics team.
• Automate recommendations and remediations, including approval-gated automated remediation for low-risk waste.
• Integrate LLM capabilities for natural language cost querying with guardrails and audit controls.

Required profile

• 3-6 years of hands-on experience in a FinOps, cloud cost management or cloud financial engineering role.
• Deep knowledge of AWS CUR, Azure Billing Exports and OCI billing data, including schemas, amortization logic and Reserved Instances and Savings Plans.
• Proven experience identifying and quantifying waste in multi-cloud environments.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

Required skills

• Python (production-quality code, APIs, automation) and SQL (large billing datasets).
• GitHub and GitHub Actions for version control and CI/CD.
• Agile delivery with Azure DevOps; AI tools such as Copilot, ChatGPT or Claude.
• Nice to have: FinOps Certified Practitioner, front-end dashboards (React, Streamlit, Power BI, Tableau), LLM API integration, ServiceNow workflow automation or Microsoft Teams adaptive cards.
