Associate Distribution Engineer

About the role

Leidos is seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for its electric utility design engineering work, working directly with clients to maintain high-quality work. The position has remote-working capabilities, but prefers candidates living within commuting distance of the Pittsburgh, PA metropolitan area to support local utility clients. The pay range is $50,700 to $91,650.

Key responsibilities

• Independently develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos's electric utility customers.
• Review client-provided work and assess scope requirements.
• Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sag and tension specifications, and voltage drop and flicker calculations.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles.
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and field design requirements, develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban areas, and handle work permits, easements and right-of-way applications.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Industrial preferred) with 0+ years of experience.
• Valid U.S. driver's license, as local or regional travel is expected; customer-site visits may be needed to collect field data.
• Willingness to do both field and office work, including occasional outdoor work.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, organization, and ability to work with limited supervision.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
• NESC standards, ESRI, AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and GIS are a plus.
