Associate Data Scientist

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring an Associate Data Scientist to support data science initiatives that drive business profitability, greater efficiencies and a better customer experience. The role works closely with Data Scientists and/or Senior Data Scientists to build solutions using advanced analytics methods and algorithms to identify trends and provide business solutions. Depending on the team, the associate may develop skills in specializations such as optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search or NLP. The position reports to a manager or above, has no direct reports and requires no travel.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop algorithms and models applied to large datasets to create business insights.
• Support data science projects by analyzing data to solve business problems, with high efficiency and quality.
• Consult with Data Scientists or Senior Data Scientists on the selection, use and interpretation of advanced analytical methods.
• Learn the assigned business areas so solutions reflect business-specific knowledge.
• Communicate insights and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, and support reports, updates and presentations.
• Keep up to date on industry trends and best practices, and apply what is learned.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Preferred: Master's degree in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Math, Statistics, etc.) or equivalent experience.
• Preferred: 3+ years of experience in business intelligence and analytics.
• Preferred: experience in predictive modeling, data mining and data analysis, and in data visualization tools such as Tableau.
• Preferred: basic exposure to prescriptive modeling (optimization, computer vision, recommendation, search or NLP).

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Preferred: a modern scripting language (preferably Python) and query languages such as Google BigQuery or SQL.
• Preferred: statistical techniques used to find key business insights.
