Assistant/Associate Professor – Counseling and Therapy Practice

About the role

The Department of Educational Leadership & Counseling at Prairie View A&M University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor to strengthen mental‑health training for future counselors. This full‑time, nine‑month appointment begins Fall 2026 and includes teaching, research, and service responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Teach three to four graduate‑level courses each semester.
• Develop and maintain an active, discipline‑specific research agenda resulting in scholarly publications and presentations.
• Advise and mentor graduate students, including supervision of field experiences and preparation for certification exams.
• Collaborate with faculty to design and revise curricula aligned with evidence‑based practice, accreditation standards, and industry expectations.
• Participate in departmental, college, university, and professional organization service activities.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Counseling, Counselor Education, or Counselor Education & Supervision from a CACREP‑accredited program.
• Minimum of two years of teaching experience in K‑12 settings.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to an inclusive learning environment.
• Demonstrated scholarly research record in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Experience delivering instruction in online, in‑person, and hybrid formats across diverse settings (schools, private practice, hospitals, community agencies).

Required skills

• Proficiency with e‑portfolios and supervision portals for clinical training.
• Experience using learning management systems such as Canvas, Blackboard, and similar platforms.
