Assistant Technician – Design Support (Drafter)

About the role

WSP is seeking a motivated Assistant Technician to provide design and CADD support for Small Utility Services projects in Tyler, TX. You will work closely with engineers and designers to create accurate utility system drawings and documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Support engineers, designers, and project teams with drafting and design activities for utility system projects.
• Develop construction drawings and design deliverables from concept through construction.
• Prepare and modify drawings using AutoCAD and other drafting tools.
• Incorporate mark‑ups and revisions from engineering teams into design documents.
• Maintain drawing accuracy and ensure compliance with client and company drafting standards.
• Collect and organize data from specifications, sketches, field notes, and other sources.
• Assist in formatting and producing technical documentation and drawing packages.
• Participate in project coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Learn and apply new software, tools, and drafting standards as required.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in drafting, engineering technology, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Basic understanding of drafting and design principles.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
• Self‑motivated with initiative and willingness to grow.
• Ability to manage assigned tasks independently and meet project deadlines.
