Assistant Store Manager – Retail

About the role

The Assistant Store Manager supports the selling, service and daily operations of the store, creating an engaging and inspiring environment for customers and the team. Acting as a brand ambassador, this role helps drive visual standards, personalized service and omni‑channel experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with leadership to develop visual merchandising that reflects the Free People brand.
• Create and execute selling initiatives that enhance customer relationships through personalized recommendations.
• Deliver seamless omni‑channel experiences using MPOS, POS and customer‑service applications.
• Guide the team to prioritize service and styling, providing timely feedback and fostering accountability.
• Act as manager‑on‑duty, driving engagement across store zones and making multi‑tasking decisions.
• Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding and talent development to build a strong bench.
• Maintain daily operating standards, including sales forecasting, scheduling, payroll and zone chart management.
• Analyze product placement, stock levels and shipment processing to optimize visual and inventory standards.
• Uphold safety, inventory accuracy and loss‑prevention policies.
• Communicate company updates, product knowledge and brand messaging to the team.
