Assistant Store Manager (Merchandising Training)

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training (MASM-IT) for its Fergus Falls store. This is a hands-on training program of up to 6 weeks, with mentorship and leadership development, during which the trainee learns the duties of a Manager on Duty and oversees the merchandising departments (Garden, Hardware, Lumber, Building Materials, Plumbing and Electrical) so that customer service, product availability and store presentation succeed.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise associates in the selling effort, lead the GET culture and drive customer service and associate engagement
• Perform opening and closing duties and other whole-store operations, holding associates accountable to company policies and procedures
• Follow safety and hazmat procedures and maintain safety standards
• Plan merchandise placement and signing, support stock integrity through inventory management, and learn to run store equipment, systems and daily financial operations
• Take part in a structured training program covering operations, customer service, sales and profitability, staffing and scheduling, performance management and the associate disciplinary process

Required profile

• Able to work in the United States and at least 18 years old
• High school diploma or GED; preferred: bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field
• Preferred: 3 years of work experience and 3 years of leadership experience
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams

Working conditions

• Typically reports to the Store Manager with no direct reports
• Overnight travel under 5% of the time
• Indoor work; must stand or walk continuously and lift or carry moderate-weight items (8-20 pounds)
