Assistant Store Manager (Merchandising Trainee)

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Merchandising Assistant Store Manager in Training (MASM-IT) for its Fergus Falls store. This is a hands-on training program of up to 6 weeks, with mentorship and leadership development, during which the trainee learns the duties of a Manager on Duty and oversees the merchandising departments (Garden, Hardware, Lumber, Building Materials, Plumbing and Electrical) so that customer service, product availability and store presentation succeed.

Key responsibilities

• Customer experience: supervise associates in the selling effort, drive customer service and engagement, and resolve customer concerns promptly.
• Operations management: run opening and closing procedures, follow company policies, know store SOPs (including safety compliance) and help reduce shrink.
• Safety: make sure self and associates follow safety and hazmat procedures.
• Sales and productivity: plan merchandise placement and signing, support stock integrity through inventory management, and learn to operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
• Training: complete a structured program covering operations, customer service, sales and profitability, staffing and scheduling, performance reviews and the disciplinary process, plus all assigned modules and assessments.

Required profile

• Able to work in the United States and at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED; preferred: bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field.
• Preferred: 3 years of work experience and 3 years of leadership experience.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Physical requirements: continuous standing or walking, and lifting or carrying material of moderate weight (8-20 pounds); occasional unpleasant conditions.
• Typical overnight travel under 5% of the time; reports to the Store Manager with no direct reports.
