Assistant Research Scientist – Transportation

About the role

The Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) seeks an Assistant Research Scientist to lead and contribute to federally and industry‑funded transportation research projects. The role involves proposal development, data‑driven analysis, and technology transfer within a hybrid work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare technical reports, literature reviews, data analyses, and presentations for sponsors and technical meetings.
• Lead or co‑lead externally funded research proposals and manage contract deliverables.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams of researchers, graduate and undergraduate students to meet project milestones.
• Collect, organize, and analyze large transportation datasets, develop models, and generate actionable recommendations.
• Present research findings at conferences, sponsor meetings, and academic venues.

Required profile

• Master’s degree with three years of related experience, or Ph.D. with one year of experience.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct unbiased, high‑quality research and meet project deadlines.
• Experience supervising graduate students and collaborating with multi‑disciplinary teams.

Required skills

• GIS analysis using ArcGIS, QGIS, or GIS packages in R/Python.
• Big data analytics and statistical modeling with R or Python.
• Machine‑learning techniques applied to transportation data.
• Transportation modeling tools such as Synchro/SimTraffic, VISSIM, or TransModeler.
