Diesel Technician I – Heavy‑Duty Vehicle Maintenance

About the role

The Diesel Technician I performs skilled maintenance and repair on heavy‑duty vehicles and equipment for Texas A&M University Transportation Services. The position includes uniform, tools, and safety equipment, with hourly pay starting at $25.20.

Key responsibilities

• Perform repair and preventative maintenance on diesel and gasoline engines, drivetrains, exhaust systems, batteries, belts, hoses, and tires.
• Use diagnostic software and tools to identify engine, transmission, and electrical faults.
• Maintain clean shop environment, complete service orders, and manage parts requests.
• Drive DOT‑regulated vehicles for test drives, recovery, and delivery as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two years of experience repairing heavy‑duty vehicles or related equipment.
• Valid vehicle operator’s license; ability to obtain Texas Class B CDL with passenger and air‑brake endorsements within 60 days.

Required skills

• Knowledge of diesel engine and drivetrain components.
• Proficiency with diagnostic software for engine and transmission troubleshooting.
• Basic DC electrical troubleshooting.
• Fabrication skills including welding and cutting torch operation.
• ASE or equivalent OEM certifications (preferred).
