Assistant Research Professor in Nutrition & Food Science

About the role

The Department of Nutrition and Food Science at the University of Maryland, College Park seeks a full‑time, non‑tenure‑track Assistant Research Professor. This 9‑month research appointment begins August 9, 2027 and focuses on advancing the department’s strategic research areas.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with faculty to design, coordinate, and execute research projects.
• Assist in preparing proposals, reports, and scholarly publications.
• Identify and develop interdisciplinary research collaborations.
• Oversee operation, maintenance, scheduling, and user training for shared research equipment and laboratory facilities.
• Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for safe equipment use.
• Provide technical consultation to faculty, staff, and students.
• Train and mentor undergraduate and graduate students and research personnel.
• Maintain records of equipment usage, maintenance, and research activities.
• Support acquisition of new research equipment and infrastructure.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in nutrition, food science, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated research activity and success in securing external funding.
• Prior teaching experience with evidence of teaching excellence.
• Ability to advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
• Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
