Assistant Professor – Physics (Tenure-Track)

About the role

The Department of Physics seeks an Assistant Professor on the tenure‑track to develop a strong research program and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching. The position offers a reduced teaching load for research‑active faculty and encourages community outreach.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and lead an independent research program in experimental, theoretical, or computational physics.
• Teach one 3‑credit physics course per semester (reduced load for research‑active faculty).
• Mentor and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in research projects.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including committees and outreach activities.
• Contribute to the department’s strengths in astrophysics, biophysics, condensed matter, nuclear/quantum physics, optics, and planetary science.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field by the time of hire.
• Demonstrated record of research activity evidenced by peer‑reviewed publications.
• Potential to secure external research funding.
• Evidence of synergy with existing departmental research strengths.
• Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate physics courses beyond teaching‑assistant duties is preferred.
