Assistant Professor of Reading and Elementary Education

About the role

Wilkes University’s Dr. Richard Abbas Alley School of Education seeks a full‑time Assistant Professor to join its undergraduate department. The position focuses on early literacy and mathematics instruction across online, hybrid, and face‑to‑face formats, and includes coordination of the Early Childhood Education pathway.

Key responsibilities

• Teach early literacy and math methods courses in various delivery modes.
• Coordinate and advise the Early Childhood Education pathway program.
• Collaborate with early childcare centers throughout Pennsylvania.
• Develop and maintain online course materials.
• Engage in scholarly research with a tenure‑track focus.

Required profile

• Earned doctorate in education, child development, child and family studies, or a related field.
• Minimum three years of successful teaching experience; higher‑education experience preferred.
• Demonstrated collaboration, leadership in elementary education, and inclusive communication skills.
• Interest in local and global education issues and a clear research agenda.

Required skills

• Online course development and online teaching experience.
• Teacher certification.
• Reading/Literacy Specialist Certification (or willingness to obtain).
