Assistant Professor of Modern Korean History

About the role

The Department of History at Northeastern University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor specializing in Modern Korean History (19th century onward). The position supports undergraduate and graduate programs, contributes to the Global Asian Studies initiative, and is funded by a Korea Foundation grant.

Key responsibilities

• Teach four courses per academic year, including Korean History, East Asian Studies, and related subjects.
• Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate curricula, advise students, and mentor junior scholars.
• Maintain an active research agenda, publish scholarly work, and seek external funding.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service, and help expand Korean Studies at Northeastern.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in History or a closely related field, completed by the start date.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and research, with a record of publications or scholarly output.
• Ability to teach diverse student populations and contribute to interdisciplinary programs.
