About the role

The Department of Art History and Archaeology at the University of Maryland, College Park seeks an Assistant Professor specializing in Early Modern European Art History (1300‑1800). The position supports undergraduate, M.A., and Ph.D. programs through teaching, research, and mentorship.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Early Modern European Art History and related fields.
• Mentor and advise students at all levels, including supervising theses and dissertations.
• Conduct original research that aligns with departmental strengths such as digital art history, cultural heritage, and the histories of race and colonial power.
• Engage with regional museums and cultural institutions in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.
• Contribute to departmental service, including curriculum development and committee work.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Art History or a closely related discipline completed by July 1 2027.
• Demonstrated teaching experience at the college or university level.
• Research agenda that complements the department’s interdisciplinary focus.
