Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatric Cardiac Surgery

About the role

The University of Miami seeks a full‑time Assistant or Associate Professor to join the JMH Holtz Pediatric Cardiac Surgery program. This clinical faculty position supports surgery, research, education, and administration for pediatric and congenital heart disease patients.

Key responsibilities

• Perform the full spectrum of pediatric and congenital cardiac surgeries, including arterial switch, Norwood, septal defect closures, tetralogy of Fallot repairs, Fontan procedures, ECMO/VAD support, and transplantation.
• Maintain and improve quality standards for pediatric cardiac surgery and heart transplant services.
• Collaborate with Holtz Children’s Hospital leadership to meet state accreditation requirements for cardiac surgery, NICU Level III/IV, and Level 1 pediatric trauma center.
• Develop and implement clinical pathways, guidelines, and protocols to enhance patient outcomes.
• Mentor cardiothoracic fellows, house staff, and medical students in clinical and research activities.

Required profile

• Board certification (or equivalent) in Surgery.
• Completed fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.
• Minimum five years of clinical experience in pediatric cardiac surgery.
• Active Florida medical license and good standing with hospital staff.
• Proven record of scholarly achievement, research, and teaching.
• Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal skills, and ability to adapt to change.

Required skills

• Board certification in Surgery.
• Fellowship training in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery.
• Florida medical licensure.
