Assistant Professor, Modern Korean History

About the role
Northeastern University’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities is seeking a tenure‑track Assistant Professor specializing in Modern Korean History (19th century onward). The position begins on August 16, 2027, on the Boston campus and includes a full‑time, benefits‑eligible appointment.
Key responsibilities
- Teach four undergraduate or graduate courses per academic year in Korean History, East Asian Studies, or related fields.
- Develop and update curricula for the History and Global Asian Studies undergraduate programs and the World History graduate program.
- Maintain an active research agenda, publish scholarly work, and seek external funding.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
- Contribute to departmental, college, and university service, including the internationalization of the curriculum.
- Support the growth of the Global Asian Studies Program and Korean Studies initiatives at Northeastern.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in History or a closely related discipline, completed by the start date.
- Demonstrated expertise in modern Korean history (19th century onward) and interest in subfields such as history of medicine, science, technology, environmental, economic, legal, gender, race, or digital humanities.
- Evidence of high‑quality research and a commitment to scholarly excellence.
- Ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses effectively.
- Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary and internationalized teaching and research.
