Assistant Professor in Gerontology

About the role
The Manning College of Nursing and Health Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Gerontology, starting September 1 2026. The role focuses on advancing research at the intersection of aging and health disparities, with preferred expertise in cognitive aging, economics of retirement, spatial methods, or AI applications.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and lead an independent research program, securing external funding and publishing in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Teach undergraduate, master’s and doctoral courses within the Gerontology program and related academic units.
- Mentor students through advising, dissertation committees, comprehensive exams and research practicums.
- Participate as a Fellow in the Gerontology Institute and collaborate with affiliated centers such as the Center for Social and Demographic Research in Aging and the LeadingAge LTSS Center.
Required profile
- Earned doctoral degree in gerontology, psychology, economics, social work, sociology, public policy, public health, human development, or a related interdisciplinary field.
- Demonstrated potential or record of obtaining substantial external research funding.
- Strong publication record in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Commitment to teaching diverse student populations and to inclusive scholarship.
