About the role
Northwestern University’s Department of Radio/Television/Film is seeking an Assistant Professor in Film and Media Production. The successful candidate will join a vibrant faculty that integrates theory and practice, teaching both undergraduate and MFA graduate students in a hybrid documentary media program.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and teach undergraduate production courses and MFA seminars.
- Guide student thesis projects and supervise graduate research.
- Contribute to curriculum design and program administration for the MFA.
- Maintain an active creative practice that informs teaching and scholarship.
- Engage in scholarly and artistic research in film, documentary, and emerging media.
Required profile
- Working filmmaker with a robust practice across documentary, fiction, or experimental work.
- Extensive knowledge of independent film production and hybrid media forms.
- Demonstrated ability to teach at the university level and mentor students.
- Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and scholarly excellence.

What we offer
- Tenure‑eligible full‑time appointment (9‑month contract paid over 12 months).
- Competitive salary range $100,000–$110,000.
