Assistant Nurse Manager – Postpartum

About the role

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in clinical supervision and unit coordination on the Postpartum Unit at Akron General Medical Center. This night‑shift position provides leadership while delivering compassionate care to mothers and newborns.

Key responsibilities

• Interview, hire, train staff and contribute to performance evaluations.
• Make personnel action recommendations such as promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions.
• Supervise admissions, assess patient needs, and initiate nursing care plans.
• Evaluate and document patient progress and facilitate nursing program development.
• Assist with policy and procedure implementation, serve as liaison between manager and staff, and resolve care delivery issues.
• Prepare work schedules, ensure adequate coverage, and participate in quality improvement projects.
• Provide continuing education and in‑service programs for caregivers.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited program.
• Current RN license in Ohio.
• Minimum two years recent clinical nursing experience in mother/baby or OB setting.
• Strong clinical knowledge, analytical, organizational, oral and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (upon hire or within one year).
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (within six months of hire).
