Assistant Library Director for Collection Services (Librarian Assistant Professor)

About the role

The University of Miami School of Law seeks a Librarian Assistant Professor who will also serve as Assistant Library Director for Collection Services. This senior faculty member will lead the department responsible for cataloging, metadata, serials, electronic resources, preservation, acquisitions, and collection development.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise Collection Services librarians and staff, ensuring efficient workflow and quality control of bibliographic databases.
• Manage the acquisition process, including planning, ordering, licensing, invoicing, receiving, record maintenance, and budgeting for print and electronic resources.
• Develop and implement a holistic collection development strategy aligned with the law school’s teaching and research priorities.
• Conduct collection assessments, generate reports, and maintain metrics on holdings.
• Oversee special collections development, planning, and record maintenance.
• Stay current with trends in collection services, participate in professional development, and provide expert advice on information resources.

Required profile

• MLIS (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, especially in acquisitions and collection strategy.
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience in a library setting.

Required skills

• Experience with Ex Libris ALMA integrated library system.
• Proficiency in OCLC database management.
• Familiarity with institutional repository platforms.
