Assistant General Counsel, Litigation

About the role

Roku is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to lead its litigation portfolio outside of intellectual property matters. The role will handle consumer class actions, commercial disputes, and privacy‑related litigation across Roku’s hardware, streaming, and advertising businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end management of Roku’s corporate litigation portfolio, from intake and early assessment through resolution.
• Develop and execute case strategies, direct outside counsel, and decide when to fight, settle, or escalate matters.
• Handle consumer class actions, commercial and contract disputes, and privacy‑related claims under statutes such as VPPA, CIPA, BIPA, and CCPA.
• Manage government investigations and regulatory enforcement actions, particularly those related to privacy.
• Draft and review briefs, internal memos, demand letters, and other legal documents with clarity and persuasive force.

Required profile

• Significant experience managing complex litigation portfolios, preferably in technology or media companies.
• Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguous legal issues and develop novel case theories.
• Strong judgment in deciding litigation strategy, settlement, and escalation.
• Excellent written communication skills for drafting high‑impact legal documents.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of privacy and consumer protection laws (e.g., VPPA, CIPA, BIPA, CCPA).
• Proven litigation management experience, including coordination with outside counsel.
• Strategic thinking and ability to construct persuasive legal arguments.
