Associate Attorney - First-Party Insurance Litigation

About the role

Segal McCambridge, a national litigation firm founded in 1986, is hiring an Associate Attorney for its First Party Insurance Practice Group in Austin, Texas. The ideal candidate has 2-7 years of experience litigating first-party insurance disputes, enjoys a collaborative environment and takes ownership of their cases. The team sits in Austin but the successful candidate can work in Austin, Houston or remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Take primary responsibility for an active first-party litigation docket from inception through resolution.
• Handle your caseload through all phases of litigation with autonomy, supported by managing partners and other attorneys when needed.
• Defend first-party bad faith lawsuits involving commercial property, business income and other commercial coverages, residential property, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, Stowers, excess judgment and other coverage disputes.
• Develop and execute litigation strategy with client representatives from large, national insurance carriers.
• Build strong client relationships through communication, responsiveness and results.

Required profile

• Active license to practice law in Texas.
• 2-7 years of first-party insurance litigation experience, preferably in property coverages.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines, with a proactive, confident approach and willingness to collaborate.

Required skills

• Legal research, writing, litigation strategy and advocacy.
• Drafting pleadings, motions, written discovery and client reports.
• Depositions, hearing attendance, settlement discussions and full litigation through final resolution.
