Assistant Director, Volunteer Service & Leadership Development

About the role

The University of Miami’s Butler Center for Volunteer Service and Leadership Development is seeking an Assistant Director to lead student leadership programming and community partnership initiatives. Reporting to the Center Director, this role supports the Center’s mission to inspire students to create positive social change.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the student leadership development process, including outreach to community partners.
• Advise and support approximately 30 student service clubs, organizations, advocacy groups, and action committees representing around 2,000 members.
• Coordinate leadership program boards, steering committees, and conferences such as the Patricia A. Whitely Leadership Symposium.
• Design and implement the First Year U: Learning, Leadership and Community intensive program for new freshmen.
• Oversee recruitment and selection for the Canes Ignite Mentorship Program.
• Assist the Director with strategic planning, liability assessment, and university‑wide programming implementation.
• Promote programs through social media, produce publications, and publish the weekly e‑newsletter “The Butler Connection.”

Required profile

• Experience advising student organizations and leading leadership development initiatives.
• Strong organizational and project‑management abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with multiple campus units and external community partners.
