Assistant Cook – Food Service & Transport

About the role
The Assistant Cook supports the Head Start and Early Head Start kitchen operations by preparing, serving, documenting, and safely transporting meals for infants, toddlers, and preschool children. Working under the guidance of the Head Cook and Nutrition Manager, you will help ensure meals meet USDA/CACFP standards and maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in ordering, receiving, and inventory control of food items.
- Prepare and serve meals and snacks according to approved menus and special dietary needs.
- Document meal production and maintain CACFP records.
- Transport prepared meals to satellite program sites safely.
- Support kitchen cleanliness, sanitation, and compliance with health‑food safety codes.
- Help supervise volunteer assistants when workload requires.
Required profile
- Commitment to child safety and the values of accountability, ambition, collaboration, creativity, and integrity.
- Ability to follow state regulations, OHS, USDA, and CACFP guidelines.
- Flexibility to work in multiple kitchen locations as needed.
Required skills
- Food preparation and handling.
- Inventory management.
- Knowledge of CACFP documentation procedures.
