Aquatics Instructor

About the role

The Aquatics Instructor will join Cleveland Clinic Akron General’s Stow Health and Wellness Center, delivering safe and engaging aquatic programs for patrons. The role combines teaching swim lessons, lifeguarding duties, and developing specialized water activities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver learn‑to‑swim classes, group lessons (up to 5 hrs/week) and private lessons (up to 20 hrs/week).
• Maintain continuous pool coverage by coordinating schedules with the Manager of Center Activities/Programs.
• Design and implement a diverse pool program schedule, special in‑services, workshops, and clinics.
• Lead lifeguarding, teaching, and pool maintenance duties when on duty.
• Assist with administrative tasks such as payroll, statistical reports, and shift documentation.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Red Cross First Aid and Lifeguard training.
• Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification within six months of hire.
• Experience in at least one aquatic specialty (e.g., competitive swimming, synchronized swimming, snorkeling/SCUBA).

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• First Aid and Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
• Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification (or willingness to obtain within one year).
• Knowledge of emergency action plans and ability to conduct drills.
