Applied Scientist Intern

About the role

Ramp is building smart finance infrastructure and needs an Applied Science intern to develop machine‑learning models that power credit underwriting, fraud detection, and spend management. You will work closely with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to turn complex business problems into scalable AI solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Own the end‑to‑end ML lifecycle: data exploration, feature engineering, model training, benchmarking, deployment, and monitoring.
• Leverage large language models (LLMs) and other state‑of‑the‑art AI techniques to create new product capabilities.
• Apply appropriate methods such as deep learning, gradient boosting, or causal inference to solve business problems.
• Design and run rigorous experiments (A/B tests, statistical analysis) to quantify impact.
• Collaborate with product and business leaders to translate model insights into actionable strategies and user‑facing features.

Required profile

• Currently pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Math, Physics, Economics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field, with graduation expected between Dec 2027 and 2029.
• Strong fundamentals in machine learning, statistics, probability, and optimization.
• Demonstrated interest or experience with AI, especially large language models.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Bias for action: comfortable with ambiguity and eager to ship solutions quickly.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Data‑science libraries: pandas, scikit‑learn, NumPy, PyTorch.
• SQL and experience with modern data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Clickhouse).
• Version control with Git.
